BISBEE

ARIZONA

History

Bisbee’s history is rooted in mining. In 1877, army scouts and cavalrymen searching for Apaches stumbled upon rich mineral deposits. The first mining camp that formed around these discoveries eventually became the City of Bisbee. By 1910, Bisbee had grown to over 25,000 residents, making it the largest city in the territory.

Throughout its history, the mine produced significant amounts of copper, gold, zinc, lead, and manganese. By 1974, however, the mine was largely depleted, leading to its closure. This triggered a major real estate collapse, which ultimately opened the door for a new wave of residents to make Bisbee their home.

Bisbee of Today

Today’s Bisbee is a well-known artists’ community that has carefully preserved its architectural and historic heritage. Nestled amid the natural and historic beauty of Cochise County, the city has transformed into an ideal destination for visitors. Combined with its reputation for having “the most perfect year-round climate,” Bisbee is not only a wonderful place to visit but also a great place to call home.
